It's finally here! The first official long weekend of the summer as many Canadians like to call it. National Nutrition is located in
Orillia Ontario, just 2 hours north of Toronto. Many travellers will be heading up this way to their cottages or to campsites. We've already noticed a rush of camper vans and trucks towing boats, despite the forecasted thunderstorms we're expecting on Sunday and Monday (let's hope the weather forecast is wrong).
The long weekend is celebrated on the last Monday on or before May 24, in honour of Queen Victoria's birthday. On Monday night many of us will also attend a fireworks show in her honour.
Gardeners also take full advantage of this long weekend by starting their perennial gardens now that the early morning frost is gone. If you're going to be outdoors this and are concerned about
mosquito bites you might find
Dr. Jody's Q&A from last summer helpful. In the article she recommends a few
essential oils that will help keep the bugs away like:
citronella,
eucalyptus,
tea tree and
lavender. There's also a wonderful and natural product by Quantum Health called
Buzz Away Natural Bug Spray.
If you don't have any plans yet for the weekend, get some idea's from our staff! Here's a short list of what some of us at National Nutrition plan on doing this weekend:
• BBQ with family & friends (
healthy recipes)
• Walk along the trails in the forrest
• Visit a garden centre and start your garden
• Go to a cottage with a group of friends of your family
• Rent a canoe for the day and explore
• Take your dog to the park
• Read a new book in the sunshine
• Take in your local community firework show
No matter what you end up doing, we wish you and your family a happy and safe May long weekend!
