Reduce High Blood Pressure Without Drugs

Frequently undiagnosed or ignored because it's onset can be without symptoms, high blood pressure responds well to changes in diet, exercise level, & to the right supplements... Hypertension or high blood pressure is known as a silent killer because people often do not know that they have it until the body is already damaged. If you think that you are at risk, it is important to have your blood pressure monitored regularly, because hypertension can lead to heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure and retinal (eye) damage. The most common causes of hypertension are narrowed arteries or a decrease in arterial elasticity. Narrowing and hardening of the arteries are primarily caused by eating too much of the wrong types of fats. It is important that you get enough of the right kinds of fats to limit this damage and to promote health. Other causes are kidney disease, heavy metal toxicity, obesity, stress and poor diet. Most people are do no have symptoms because their blood pressure rises slowly over many years. Symptoms of fluctuating blood pressure may be present and include headaches, dizziness, fatigue, nosebleeds and flushed cheeks. Symptoms of decreased circulation can accompany high blood pressure and include angina, leg pain, forgetfulness and ringing in the ears. Official diagnosis of hypertension is made when blood pressure readings over 140/90 are found on at least three occasions. In people over 50 the exact reading necessary to diagnose hypertension can be variable. A single reading of high blood pressure is generally not accepted as official because environmental factors such as stress and the amount of salt recently eaten can skew the reading. Your blood pressure is measured in two ways: when the heart is beating (systolic) and in between beats (diastolic). The first (higher) number is the systolic and the second (lower) number is the diastolic pressure. If you have consistently high blood pressure, you might consider purchasing a digital blood pressure cuff which conveniently allows you to measure your own blood pressure in your own home or office. Conventional treatment of hypertension involves medication to decrease blood volume (diuretics, ACE inhibitors) or reduce tension in the vessels (beta-blockers). Diuretics increase the excretion of minerals like magnesium and potassium. This can cause problems maintaining heart rhythm and muscle spasms. ACE inhibitors deplete zinc. Beta-blockers deplete coenzyme Q10. Other medications may be given to control the root cause of the high blood pressure like sedatives, cholesterol reducing drugs or drugs to maintain kidney function. Natural treatment of hypertension involves lifestyle and dietary changes. Use stress reduction techniques such as regular exercise, deep breathing and massage. Chiropractic care will align the upper spine to ensure proper nerve conduction to the heart. Hydrotherapy using cold arm baths can decrease blood pressure. Emotions such as worry and fear can contribute to hypertension and should be addressed. Colour therapy and biofeedback have been studied with regard to their blood pressure lowering effects. You might also explore a variety of different chelation treatments available which have been clinically proven to cleanse the arteries of blockages. Chelation treatments available include: intravenous (available in clinics), oral tablets, and a new suppository form proven nearly as effective as I.V. The standard North American diet predisposes people to developing high blood pressure due to its saturated and trans fatty acid content. To prevent hypertension maintain a healthy weight. Drink lots of clear fluids and eat raw fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Include green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, fish, vegetable protein, like soybeans, and unrefined oils like olive, flax and sunflower in your daily diet. Foods to avoid are any junk foods, fried foods, processed foods, fast foods, white flour products, white sugar products, red meat, margarine, shortening, artificial sweeteners, diet foods, salt, coffee, colas and other caffeine sources. Oregano Oil: Immune Booster and More

Oregano is a well-known spice in Italian cooking. This plant is just as useful in the medicine cabinet as it is in the kitchen. Oregano extracts have antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal activity. Chronic infections, like candida, and contagious new viruses, like SARS, seem to be inhibited by oregano. Oregano not only kills infecting microbes in the respiratory tract but also acts as an expectorant (helps to expel mucus) and antispasmodic (relieves coughing). In the digestive tract oregano soothes digestion and decreases diarrhea, by stopping intestinal spasms. It also kills gastrointestinal microbes and decreases gas and bloating. Oregano can be used topically for skin infections, like athlete’s foot. Oregano may be recommended for treating colds, coughs, chronic respiratory conditions, yeast infections, viral infections, bacterial infections, diarrhea and indigestion. Oregano can be purchased as a loose herb, encapsulated herb, spice or essential oil. The loose herb can be made into a tea for topical application, inhalation or internal use. Oregano may be a part of teas for soothing digestion. The spice is often added to dishes for prevention of bacterial contamination. Oregano can be found in combination products for colds and flus, immune boosting, candidiasis and digestion. The essential oil of oregano is a highly concentrated substance. It comes in various strengths, sometimes referred to as a percentage (i.e.: P73). Stronger is not always better and if you are using oregano oil for the first time you will probably find a moderate strength preparation (40-60%) is suitable. When using essential oils topically, especially in sensitive areas, be sure to test the oil first on a small area. If necessary, dilute the oil in carrier oil, such as olive, almond or any cooking oil. When using essential oils internally keep in mind that they do not mix well in water. Essential oils are toxic when taken internally in high doses. Oil of oregano should not be used in pregnancy or lactation. After oral use of oregano probiotic supplements should be used to replace beneficial bacterial flora.

Success Story: How I Beat Eating Disorders

Tracey tells us how she was able to break the cycle of binging and purging and develop a healthy body and mind... _______________________________________________________ At its worst I remember binging and purging and repeating again several times in the same day. I hated every minute of it. Deep down I desired to be healthy and live a healthy life style. I felt so far away from this goal during this time frame in my life... Ever since I was little girl, I always wanted to be beautiful. I remember growing up with Barbie doll and Walt Disney images as role models, and later - as a teenager - the “flawless” supermodels portrayed in glamour magazines and soap operas. In retrospect I can see that this kind of thinking originated from the pressure of what women are required to become due to societal norms and beliefs. But, I didn’t know that then. I grew up with these influences and felt immense pressure to achieve external beauty. I often felt inadequate, that I was never good enough. In elementary school I would either eat too much or not at all to try to regulate my weight and to stay thin. This behaviour became a daily habit and it spiraled into a series of eating disorders that I would later endure for years. While I was never obese, I did experience weight fluctuations from binging, then starving myself. In high school I lived off slim fast shakes (Yuck! can’t stand them today) and was able to maintain a thin frame. While I was thin – almost skinny, I felt terrible. I was constantly tired and I often had trouble concentrating. I weighed about between 115 to 120 pounds for most of my teenage years, but I never felt satisfied nor did I ever feel confident, or happy. I was never thin enough. In my early 20’s I started training at a gym. I enjoyed this so much, but what began as a healthy activity developed into an obsession. About this same time instead of binging and then starving myself, I started to purge after binges. I knew what bulimia was, but I ignored my behaviour because I wanted to be thin. I remember wanting to be healthy, but I also wanted to look good and in my mind looking good meant you had to be thin. I quickly dropped to 110 pounds in a very unhealthy way. I had no energy, I was very pale with sunken eyes, I had no shine to my hair, and my nails broke easily. I knew that I was damaging my body and wanted things to change for the better, so I would work out even harder. I worked out seven days a week and ate three very tiny meals a day. Just a little bit of chicken and a few leaves of lettuce. I would sometimes workout four hours a day and also worked full-time 4-12 in a factory. At the time I had three jobs and a daughter that I was raising on my own. The gym became the most important thing in my life at the time, I could never miss it. I worked at my other two jobs on the weekend. I developed Bulimia at the age of 22. I began to purchase large amounts of food and binge on it until I could barley move. In particular, stress would trigger the binging. Any time something negative would happen in my life – an argument, a breakup, financial stress, anything - I would binge. I kept wishing there was a way to control it and just be healthy, but it took over my life. I began to binge and purge everyday and my weight would fluctuate up to 10 pounds within 3 day periods. I remember binging to the point of not being able to physically move or breathe. It was terrible; I cried almost every time I put my body through this abuse. It was not long before I began to vomit blood. It finally scared me enough to seek help and change my life. At its worst I remember binging and purging and repeating again several times in the same day. I hated every minute of it. Deep down I desired to be healthy and live a healthy life style. I felt so far away from this goal during this time frame in my life. It was difficult to overcome this cycle of behaviour; it took me about 6 years to stop it completely. But at the age of 28 I began to research nutritional supplements and decided to change these destructive behaviours once and for all. I was able to slowly overcome the cycle of binging and purging and at first gained 20 pounds. From my research I discovered that this occurred because my metabolism had slowed because I had starved my body of nutrients for so long. I would still binge at first, which was another reason for my weight gain, but successfully overcame the purging part. This was a huge and positive step towards my recovery. I learned to eat healthier and to combine food properly to aid in the digestive process. I learned how to love and appreciate my body and felt an even deeper desire to treat it properly by giving it the nutrients that it required to function efficiently.
